WHAT IS A DIET?
The word ‘diet’ really means what you eat during the day. The difference in how long you will live, how much you will weigh, what disease you will get, and even how happy you will be depends a lot on what you eat every day – in other words, your diet.
A good diet should consist of a balanced source of protein, fiber, complex carbohydrates and good fats. Five servings of vegetables and some fruits round out a good diet. The Smart for Life Cookie Diet makes that easy because all of these good-for-your-diet foods are in our products including diet cookies, diet soups, diet shakes, and more.
Our Smart for Life Diet program will keep you motivated because you will be losing a lot of weight quickly – probably 4 to 5 pounds the first week on the diet, and 1.5 to 2.5 lbs. every week after. (We do not exaggerate like a lot of other diet companies do – instead we provide realistic expectations.) These results have been substantiated in a study of the Smart for Life Cookie Diet.
A good diet product should also be free of toxic preservatives (Learn more about shelf-stable Diets), and made with Organic ingredients that are pesticide-free. Filtered water is ideal to ensure it is clean. We triple filter all water that comes into our bakeries to use in our Smart for Life Diet products.
The Smart for Life Diet plan was created by Dr. Sasson Moulavi, M.D., a board certified Bariatric Physician (weight loss doctor). Dr. Sass has helped thousands of people diet to get to a healthier weight and drop millions of pounds.
Besides offering you great tasting products, we also incorporate ingredients into our diet products that will improve your health. HeroFiberTM, a super fiber blend, is great for your diet and it is in most of our products. Fish oil, another great healthy diet food, is in most of our products. Also included for their health benefits are Plant Sterols, Inulin, Flax Seed, Whole Oats, and Canola Oil – a much better diet oil.
A HEALTHFUL DIET SHOULD INCLUDE...
Adequate vitamins and minerals. Eating a wide variety of foods from all the food groups on the Food Guide Pyramid will help you get the vitamins and minerals you need. If you eat less than 1,200 calories per day, you may benefit from taking a daily vitamin and mineral supplement.
Adequate protein. The average woman 25 years of age and older should get 50 grams of protein each day, and the average man 25 years of age and older should get 63 grams of protein each day. Adequate protein is important because it prevents muscle tissue from breaking down and repairs all body tissues such as skin and teeth. To get adequate protein in your diet, make sure you eat 2-3 servings every day.
Adequate carbohydrates. At least 100 grams of carbohydrates per day are needed to prevent fatigue and dangerous fluid imbalances. To make sure you get enough carbohydrates, eat 6-11 servings every day.
A daily fiber intake of 20 to 30 grams. Adequate fiber helps with proper bowel function. Fibers are known to increase the feeling of fullness and help slow down absorption of foods in the stomach.
No more than 30 percent of calories, on average, from fat per day, with less than 10 percent of calories from saturated fat (such as fat from meat, butter, and eggs). Limiting fat to these levels reduces your risk for heart disease and may help you lose weight. In addition, you should limit the amount of cholesterol in your diet. Cholesterol is a fatlike substance found in animal products such as meat and eggs. Your diet should include no more than 300 milligrams of cholesterol per day.
At least 8 to 10 glasses, 8 ounces each, of water or water-based beverages, per day. You need more water if you exercise a lot.
These nutrients should come from a variety of low-calorie, nutrient-rich foods. One way to get variety -- and with it, an enjoyable and nutritious diet is to choose foods each day from the wide selection of Smart Diet foods by Smart for Life Cookie Diet.
